Cambridgeshire Local History Society
The Society was founded in 1951 as the Cambridgeshire Local History Council. The name was changed in 1983. The object of the Society is to encourage the study of local history. Monthly meetings are held in Cambridge, from October to March and an AGM in May. The lecture programmes cover a wide range of subjects. In the summer months excursions and visits to places of historic interest are arranged.
Since its earliest days the Society published a regular Bulletin , which included articles on a wide range of Cambridgeshire topics, interesting people, historic buildings and village histories. Members are encouraged to transcribe records and carry out research on their own or with others and to make the results available through the Review or elsewhere. In 1987 a Collectors Group was set up to encourage young people in particular and to interest those who collect unusual items not covered by other societies. Festivals of Local History are organised.

The Littleport Society
President: Miss Eileen Gill Chairman: Grenville Goodson Secretary: David Porter, 20a New River Bank, Littleport, Ely, Cambs, CB7 4TA.
Tel: 01353 860354~URL /big/eng/CAM/emails?recipient=LittleportSociety {Email}:
The Littleport Society was founded in 1987 and it is the only non-political, non-sectarian organization in Littleport whose membership is open to residents and anybody else who holds an interest in this fenland town. The Society consists of an expanding group of local people who voluntarily work together in the interests of the community in which it lives. The Society now has in excess of 820 members, who live not just in Littleport but in other counties, as well as many in several other countries.
The Society arranges a popular programme of open meetings. These are usually held on the first Tuesday of every month at the Village Hall in Victoria Street, Littleport, when guest speakers come along to give an informative talk, almost invariably with a supportive slide-show. The evenings occasionally include entertainment by local singers and musicians. The Society sometimes arranges coach outings to places of interest within the region.
The Society is a potential treasure trove for genealogists researching their Littleport connections. It holds a large number of various records - maps, census returns, photographs and transcripts of the Parish's Church Registers, to name but a few. The Society also produces books and leaflets about Littleport which can be purchased from them directly. Opposite is the recently reconstructed building known as 'The Barn' adjacent to the Main Street Car Park in Littleport, Cambridgeshire where the Society is now based.
To receive information about joining the Society then please write to (including a stamped addressed envelope): Mr. Bruce Frost, 18 Upton Lane, Littleport, Ely, Cambridgeshire, CB6 1HF, England.
In return the Society will search it's databases and archives for the names that you are researching, but please remember that this is not a family tree researching business, it is only an archive. They will also accept any information that you may hold on Littleport in the form of a family tree, photographs, cuttings or in GEDCOM file format. You will also receive regular newsletters and an annual report. The Society currently holds in it's databases the following ever growing files:
