"FOWLMERE, (or Foulmire) a parish in the hundred of THRIPLOW, county of CAMBRIDGE, 5 miles (N. E.) from Royston, containing 541 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Ely, rated in the king's books at £29. 14. 2., and in the patronage of the Earl of Hardwicke. The church is dedicated to St. Mary. There was anciently a market at this place."
