"LOWER SLAUGHTER, a parish in the hundred of the same name, county Gloucester, 3 miles S.W. of Stow-on-the-Wold, its post town, and 6 N.E. of Northleach. The village, which is of small extent, is situated on a branch of the river Windrush, and is chiefly agricultural. The soil consists of stonebrash. The living is a curacy annexed to the rectory of Burton-on-the-Water, in the diocese of Gloucester and Bristol. The church is an ancient structure. General Sir George Whitmore is lord of the manor and principal landowner."
