Woolstone

"WOOLSTON, a parish in the lower division of Deerhurst hundred, county Gloucester, 4½ miles S.E. of Tewkesbury, 5 N. of Cheltenham, its post town, and 3 S.E. of the Ashchurch railway station. The village is situated on the acclivity of Cleeve Hill, one of the Cotswold range, and commands a view over the whole of Worcester and Gloucestershire, as far as the Welsh mountains on one side, and Broadway and Bredon hills on the other. The land is chiefly in pasture. The soil in the valley is a stiff clay. The living is a rectory* in the diocese of Gloucester and Bristol, value £200. The church, dedicated to St. Martin, was rebuilt in 1499, and has in the chancel a recumbent effigy in stone. The Earl of Coventry is lord of the manor and principal landowner."
