"ROWNER, a parish in the hundred of Titchfield, county Hants, 2½ miles S.E. of Fareham, its nearest railway station and post town, and 3 N.W. of Gosport. The village, which is small, is situated near Portsmouth harbour, and is chiefly agricultural. The greater part of the land is arable, with a considerable extent of woodland and common. The Gosport branch of the South-Western railway passes through the parish. The tithes have been commuted for a rent-charge of £400, and the glebe comprises 7 acres. The living is a rectory* in the diocese of Winchester, value £399. The church is an ancient edifice, with a small tower. Near the church are remains of an old priory, at which place there is a mineral spring. "
