"ABINGTON, a parish in the hundred of Spelhoe, in the county of Northampton, 1 1 mile N.E. of Northampton. It is situated near the river Nen, and the Northampton and Peterborough railway. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Peterborough, value £200. The pat, is Lord Overstone. The church is dedicated to St. Peter and St. Paul, and is in various styles of architecture, chiefly the early English. It contains the tombs of the Berhards. Abington Abbey has been converted into a private lunatic asylum. The favourite granddaughter of Shakspeare is buried here, and there is on the spot a mulberry-tree planted by Garrick."
