"ABTHORPE, a parish in the hundred and union of Towcester, in the county of Northampton, 3 miles S.W. of Towcester. It is situated on the small river Tove, and contains the hamlets of Charlock and Foscote. The Duke of Grafton is lord of the manor. The charities of the parish amount to £191 a year, and are applied partly to the support of a school founded in 1646 by Jane Leeson for the instruction of poor children, and partly to the relief of the poor in this and 29 other places. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Peterborough, value £215, and is in the patronage of the Bishop of Lichfield and trustees of Leeson's Charity alternately.
