"BADBY, a parish in the hundred of Fawsley, in the county of Northampton, 2 miles to the S. of Daventry, its post town. It lies near the border of Warwickshire, not far from the source of the river Non, and contains the chapelry of Newnham. In the neighbourhood are quarries of stone called blue ragstone. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Peterborough, of the value, with the curacy of Newnham, of £306, in the patronage of the Dean and Chapter of Christ Church College, Oxford. The church is dedicated to St. Mary. The parochial charities amount to £10 per annum. On Badby Down, to the west of the village, at an elevation of 800 feet above the level of the sea, is an ancient earthwork called Arbury Hill, probably of British origin. The view from it is very extensive. The principal seat is Badby House. Badby Gate is a meet for the Pytchley hounds."
