"BRAYBROOKE, a parish in the hundred of Rothwell, in the county of Northampton, 3 miles to the S.E. of Market Harborough, its post town. The south-east branch of the Midland railway passes by this place. A castle formerly existed here, which was the seat of the Griffins, one of whom, Sir John Griffin, was created Lord Braybrook in 1788. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Peterborough, of the value of £600, in the patronage of the Rev. J. W. Field. The church is dedicated to All Saints, and contains a monument of Sir Nicholas Griffin, who died in 1509, and a wooden figure of a knight supposed to be that of Sir T. Latimer. There is a chapel belonging to the Baptists in the village, and a National school erected in 1836 by Mrs. Bousquet. The charitable endowments, which include two small bequests for education, amount to £21 per annum. Robert de Braybrooks, lord chancellor in the reign of Henry IV., was born here. This place gives the title of baron to Lord Braybrooke, the present representative of the Griffin family."[From The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland (1868).
