"POLEBROOK, a parish in the hundred of Polebrook, county Northampton, 2½ miles S.E. of Oundle, its post town. The village, which is of small extent and wholly agricultural, is situated about a mile distant from the navigable river Nene. The parish contains the hamlets of Armston and Kingsthorpe. Limestone is quarried for burning into lime and for road metal. There are about 30 acres of glebe and a farm of nearly 300 acres assigned in lieu of tithes, under an Enclosure Act in 1790. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Peterborough, value £222, in the patronage of the bishop. The church, dedicated to St. Peter, has a tower and spire at the W. end.
