"WHILTON, a parish in the hundred of Nobottle Grove, county Northampton, 4 miles N.E. of Daventry, 9 from Northampton, and 3½ from the Weedon station, on the London and North-Western railway. The Grand Junction canal, the line of the London and North-Western railway, and the Roman road Watling Street, pass through the parish. The soil is chiefly a light sand and gravel. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Peterborough, value £300. The church, dedicated to St. Andrew, was rebuilt about twenty years ago. The charities produce about £70 per annum, including £57, Emery's endowment for educational purposes, which is applied in aid of the National schools."
