"KNOWLE ST. GILES, a parish in the hundred of South Petherton, county Somerset, 3 miles S.W. of Ilminster. Chard is its post town. The village is small, and wholly agricultural. The living is a perpetual curacy in the diocese of Bath and Wells, value £72, in the patronage of the Bishop of London. The church, dedicated to St. Giles, is a plain structure with a turret containing two bells. Earl Poulett is lord of the manor and chief landowner."
