"TOLLAND, a parish in the hundred of Taunton, county Somerset, 4 miles N.E. of Wiveliscombe, its post town, and 10 from Taunton. The village is situated on the liver Tone. The soil is clayey, with a subsoil of limestone, which is quarried. The living is a rectory* in the diocese of Bath and Wells, value £181. The church is dedicated to St. John the Baptist. The parochial charities produce about 5s. per annum. There are a school for both sexes, and a Sunday-school."
