"The district parishes of St Stephen's and Holy Trinity, which each comprise about a third of the populous township of Willenhall, were formed under Sir Robert Peel's act in 1847, and are both vicarages, in the patronage of the Crown and Bishop of Lichfield, alternately. The Rev TW Fletcher, MA, is vicar of St Stephen's and the Rev J Lecky is vicar of Holy Trinity. Divine service is presently performed in licensed rooms but new churches will shortly be erected, St Stephen's at Portobello, and Holy Trinity at Lane Head."

Church History

The district parish of Holy Trinity, Short Heath was formed in 1846. Initially services were held in a room at the Jolly Collier Inn, by the Rev James Leckie, followed by a licenced room in the village, until the church , in Church Road, was finally built in 1854-5, and consecrated on Trinity Sunday, 25th July 1855. The Rev Leckie died in 1853 and was succeeded by the Rev WL Rosedale.
The church, designed by W Horton, is a building of stone, in the Gothic style, consisting of a chancel, nave, aisles, vestry, sacristy, and a turret containing one bell.
A monument of marble and Bath stone was erected in 1875, at the entrance to the church, in memory of Enoch Dutson. A stained glass window in the east end was erected in memory of the Rev WE Rosedale, first vicar of Holy Trinity.
The living is a vicarage, in the alternate gift of the Crown and the Bishop of Lichfield.
