"DEFFORD, a chapelry in the parish of Pershore St. Andrew, upper division of the hundred of Pershore, in the county of Worcester, 2½ miles S.W. of Pershore, and 4½ E. of Upton-on-Severn. It is situated on the river Avon, and has a station on the Birmingham and Gloucester railway. The tithes were commuted for land under an Act of Inclosure in 1774. The living is a curacy in the diocese of Worcester, value £461, in the patronage of the Dean and Chapter of Westminster. The church, dedicated to St. James, is a stone structure. There is a Dissenting place of worship. The Earl of Coventry is lord of the manor."
