"SPETCHLEY, a parish in the lower division of Oswalds_low hundred, county Worcester, 3½ miles S.E. of Worcester, its post town, and 22 from Cheltenham. It is a station on the Midland railway. The village is small and wholly agricultural. It is mentioned in Domesday Book as Speelea. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Worcester, value £109. The church, dedicated to All Saints, is an ancient structure with a tower. It contains effigies of Judge Berkeley, &c. The parochial charities produce about £2 per annum. There is a Roman Catholic school supported by R. Berkeley, Esq. Spetchley House is a square mansion situated in a well-wooded park. R. Berkeley, Esq., is lord of the manor."
