The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Ballon contained the following places:

"BALLON, a parish in the barony of Forth, in the county of Carlow, province of Leinster, Ireland, 9 miles to the N.E. of Carlow. A branch of the river Barren flows to the north of the village. The district is chiefly pasture land. There is a stone quarry at Ballon Hill. The living is a vicarage united with that of Aghade in the diocese of Ossory, Ferns, and Leighlin. The principal residences are Larogh and Altamonat. Fairs are held on the 28th March and the 12th August."
