The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Kiltennell contained the following places:

"KILTENNELL, a parish in the barony of East Idrone, county Carlow, province of Munster, Ireland, 3 miles E.N.E. of Borris. The parish is 5 miles long, and its greatest breadth is 4 miles. It contains its post town, Killedmond. The surface is very mountainous, the principal summits being Mount Leinster, Knockroe, Tomduff, and Ninestones. The parish is crossed by the road from Borris to Enniscorthy. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Leighlin, value £243, in the patronage of the bishop. The church is at Killedmond. There are a Roman Catholic chapel and five day schools. Brooklodge is the chief seat."

"COONOGUE, a village in the barony of East Idrone, in the county of Carlow, Ireland, 5 miles S.E. of Borris, and 70 from Dublin, by the Great Southern and Western railway of Ireland, which has a station at Bagnalstown."

"KILEDMOND, a village in the parish of Kiltennell, barony of East Idrone, county Carlow, province of Leinster, Ireland, 3 miles E.N.E. of Borris. It is situated at the foot of Mount Leinster. Fairs are held on the 12th March and 15th July."
