The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Nurney contained the following places:

"NURNEY, a parish in the baronies of Forth and Carlow and East Idrone, county Carlow, province of Leinster, Ireland, 2 miles N.E. of Leighlin Bridge, its post town. The parish is 4 miles long by 1¼ mile broad. The surface consists of a part of the Barrow's valley. It is crossed by the road from Carlow to Bagnalstown. The living is a rectory and vicarage in the diocese of Leighlin, value £173, in the patronage of the bishop. The church was built by the late Board of First Fruits in 1791. Knockthomas and Orchard House are the chief seats."
