The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Sliguff contained the following places:

"SLIGUFF, a parish in the barony of Idrone East, county Carlow, province of Leinster, Ireland, 13 miles N.E. of Borris. It is situated on the river Barrow, and is crossed by the road from Goresbridge to Bagenalstown. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Leighlin, value with Lorum, £352, in the patronage of the bishop. The church has long been in ruins. In this parish are ruins of Ballyloughlin Castle, formerly a seat of the Cavanaghs. Fairs are held on 12th February and 1st November.
