"CALLAN BARONY, one of the 11 baronies or subdivisions of the county of Kilkenny, province of Leinster, Ireland, situated in the western part of the county, and bounded by the baronies of Shillelogher and Kells on the N., E., and S., and by the barony of Kells and the county of Tipperary on the W. It comprises the parish of Callan, with part of Killaloe, and has an area of about 5,650 acres."

"CRANNAGH, a barony in the county of Kilkenny, province of Munster, Ireland. It is bounded by Galway on the N., by Fassadinin and the liberties of Kilkenny on the E., by Shillelogher on the S., and the county of Tipperary on the W. It is 11 miles long by 10 broad, and its area is 58,076 acres. It contains the parishes of Ballycallan, Ballinamara, Ballylarkin, Clashacrow, Garranamanagh, Clomantagh, Freshford, Killahy, Kilmanagh, Tullaroan Tubbridbritain, parts of St. Canice (transferred from the county of the city of Kilkenny, by 3 and 4 Victoria, cap. 108 and 109), Coolcraheen, Fertagh, Killaloe, Kilcooly, Odagh, Sheffin, Tullaghanbrogue the village of Kilmanagh, and the town of Freshford The Freshford rivulet and the Nore run by the eastern boundary, and the King's river flows through the interior."

It is bounded on the S. by the barony of Gowran and county Kilkenny, and on the other sides by Queen's County and county Carlow. Its area is 68,174 acres, the greater part of which is taken up by the Castle-Comer mountains, and drained by the river Dinane. The Nore flows along its western boundary. The Kilkenny coal-fields lie within the interior. It contains the parishes of Castlecomer, Dunmore, Donaghmore, Dysart, Grangemaccomb, Kilmacar, Kilmenan, Kilmademoge, Muckalee, Mayne, and parts of Attanagh, Abbeyleix, Cooloraheen, Kilmadum, Mothell, Odagh, Rathbeagh, Rathaspick, and Rosconnell."

"GALMOY, a barony in the county Kilkenny, province of Leinster, Ireland. Queen's County bounds it on the N., the barony of Fassadining on the E., that of Cranagh on the S., and the county of Tipperary on the W. Its area is 40,237 acres, containing the parishes of Balleen, Borrismore, Coolcashin, Urlingford, and Rathlogan, and parts of Aharney, Durrow, Fertagh, Erke, Rathoeagh, Glashare, and Sheffin, also the towns of Lisdowney, Urlingford, and Johnstown. The surface, particularly to the W., is bog and swamp. The river Nore traces the greater part of the eastern border. On the N. and N.W. is a ridge of slaty mountains and limestone hills."

It is bounded on the S. by the barony of Ida, on the E. by county Carlow, on the W. by the baronies of Knocktopher and Shillelogher, and on the N. by the barony of Fassadining. It contains the parishes of Blackrath, Blanchvilleskill, Clara, Collumbkill, Ballylinch, Famma, Abbey Jerpoint, Kilderry, Kilkieran, St. Martin's, Woollen Grange, Dunbell, Dungarvan, Gowran, Grange-Silvia, Graigue, Innistiogue, Kilfane, Killarney, Kilmacahill, Powerstown, Rathcool, Shankhill, Thomastown, Tiscoffin, and Tullowherin, and parts of Jerpoint-West, Kilmadum, Mothell, Pleberstown, St. John's, St. Maul's, Treddingstown, Ullard, and Wells. The towns are-Gowran, Graigue, Goresbridge, Innistiogue, and Thomastown. The principal villages are Dunbell, Bennett's-Bridge, Whitehall, Johnswell, and Dungarvon. The surface is slightly hilly, but the soil extremely rich in the low lands. Potatoes, wheat, barley, oats, and clover are grown, and the farms are generally large. The greater part of the inhabitants are employed in agriculture."

"IDA, (and Igrin and Ibercron) a barony in county Kilkenny, province of Munster, Ireland. Its length is over 16 miles, and its greatest breadth over 6. It is bounded by the barony of Gowran on the N., the river Barrow on the E., that of the Suir on the S., and the baronies of Iverk and Knocktopher on the W. The united barony contains the parishes of Ballygurrin, Cluin, Dysertmoon, Dunkit, Gaulskill, Kilbride, Kilcoan, Kilcolm, Kilmakevoge, Rathpatrick, Rossbercon, Rower, and Shambo, and part of the parishes of Jerpoint, West Listerling, Rossinan, and the villages of Ballygub, Ballinamona, Ballincrea, Rossbercon, and Tullagher.

"INCHMORE, a peninsula and castle in county Kilkenny, province of Leinster, Ireland, 4 miles from Kilkenny, on the banks of the river Nore. Inchmore Castle was built by Robert Baron of Courtstown, who died about 1640, and was a residence of the Grace family. It is now a ruin."

"IVERK, a barony in the county Kilkenny, province of Leinster, Ireland. It is bounded on the N. by the baronies of Kells and Knocktopher, on the E. by the barony of Ida, on the S. by the county Waterford, and on the W. by the county Tipperary. It is 12 miles long by 5½ broad. The surface is elevated in the N., but in the S. it is fertile and well cultivated. It contains the parishes of Aglish, Arderra, Ballytarsney, Clonmore, Kilmacow, Owning, Pollrone, Portnascully, Rathkieran, Tibberaghny, Tubbrid, Ullid, Whitechurch, and parts of Fiddown and Muckalee."

"KELLS, a barony in county Kilkenny, province of Leinster, Ireland. Its boundaries are Shillelogher on the N., Knocktopher on the E., Iverk on the S., and county Tipperary on the W. It is 9 miles long by over 8 broad. The surface is hilly in the S.W. King's river traverses a considerable part of the interior. This barony contains the parishes of Ballytobin, Coolaghmore, Killamerry, Kilmaganny, Kilree, Mallardstown, Tullahought, and parts of Dunnamaggan, Kells, and Stonecarthy, also the village of Windgap. It is partly within the poor-law unions of Callan and Carrick-on-Suir."

It contains the parishes of Aghaviller, Derrynahinch, Jerpoint church, Kilpeacon, Kilkcasy, Killahy, Knocktopher, Lismateige, and parts of Dunnamaggan, Ennisnag, Fiddown, Jerpoint-West, Lislerlin, Muckalee, Rossinan, and Stonecarthy."

"SHILLELOGHER, a barony in the county of Kilkenny, comprising the parishes of Ballybur, Burnchurch, Castleinch, Danesfort, Earlstown, Grange, Grangekilree, Kilferagh, Outrath, Tullamaine, and parts of Ennisnag Kells, Killaloe, Stonecrathy, St. Canice, St. John's, St. Patrick's, Treadings town, and Tullaghanbrogne, together containing 36,700 acres."
