In 1868, the parish of Kilmore contained the following places:"KILMORE, a parish in the barony of Monaghan, county Monaghan, province of Ulster, Ireland, 3 miles S.W. of Monaghan, its post town. The parish is 7 miles long, and its greatest breadth is 3. The soil is generally good, and the road from Monaghan to Clones traverses the parish, as also does that from Ballybay to Smithborough. The living is a rectory and vicarage in the diocese of Clogher, value £290, in the patronage of the bishop. The church was built towards the close of the last century. The Roman Catholic chapel is united to that of Drumnart. There are a Sunday and nine day schools. Ballyleck is the principal seat."
