"ABBEY-VIEW, near Boyle, in the barony of Boyle, and in the county of Roscommon, Ireland, 84 miles N.W. of Dublin. It derives the first affix of its name from the abbey founded here in 1148. It is not far from the Curlew hills and the river Boyle."

"ATHLONE BARONY, one of the nine baronies or subdivisions of the county of Roscommon, in the province of Connaught, Ireland. It lies on the southern part of the county, and is bounded by the baronies of Ballymoe and Ballintobber on the N., by Lough Rea and the county of West Meath on the E., by the barony of Moycarn on the S., and by the river Suck, which separates it from the county of Galway, on the W. Comprised in the barony are the town of Athlone, the village of Mount Talbot, the parishes of Cam, Drum, Dysart, Fuerty, Killinvoy, Kilmeane, Kiltoom, Rahara, St. John's, St. Peter's, Taghmaconnell, Tisrara, with parts of Athleague and Taghboy. It extends over an area of 146,183 acres."

"BALLYMOE BARONY, one of the nine baronies or subdivisions of the county of Roscommon, province of Connaught, Ireland, bounded on the N. by the barony of Ballintober, on the E. by the baronies of Roscommon and Ballintober, and on the S.W. by the county of Galway. It contains the parishes of Cloonygormican and Oran, with parts of Ballynakill, Drumatemple, and Dunamon. The barony has an area of about 23,280 acres."

"BOYLE BARONY, one of the 9 baronies or subdivisions of the county of Roscommon, province of Connaught, Ireland, situated in the north-west part of the county, and bounded on the N.W. by the counties of Mayo and Sligo, on the E. by the county of Leitrim, and on the S. by the baronies of Roscommon and Ballintobber. It contains the parishes of Ardcann, Boyle, Esternow, Kilbryan, Killukin, Killummod, Kilronan, Keadew, and Tumna. The market town of Boyle, and part of Carrick-on-Shannon, are in this barony. It extends over an area of about 82,560 acres."

It contains the parishes of Ballintober, Baslick, Kilcorkey, Kilkeevin, and Kiltullagh, and spreads over an area of about 82,559 acres."

"CREAGH, a bog in the barony of Moycarn, in the county of Roscommon, province of Connaught, Ireland, near Ballinasloe. It extends over 1,758 acres, and is drained by the Suck and the Creagh millstream. There are also several seats of this name: one in the county of Mayo, near Ballinrobe; and another in the county of Cork, near Doneraile."

"CULLAGH, a bog in the barony of Moycarnon, in the county of Roscommon, province of Connaught, Ireland. It is bordered by the river Suck, and is about 2½ miles long."

"CURLEW MOUNTAINS, a lofty range running from N. to S. in the counties of Sligo and Roscommon, province of Connaught, Ireland. Their summits command an imposing view. Large masses of lime and sandstone occur on their sides."

"FRENCHPARK, a barony in the county Roscommon, province of Connaught, Ireland. Its area is 71,930 acres. It was separated from the barony of Boyle by Act 3 and 4 Victoria. It contains parts of the parishes of Creeve, Castlemore, Kilcolman, and the whole of Kilmacumsy, Kilcolagh, Kilnamanagh, Tibohine, and the villages of Frenchpark and Loughglyn."

"INCHMACNERIN, an island of Lough Key, in the barony of Boyle, county Roscommon, province of Connaught, Ireland. It was the site of a priory supposed to have been founded in the 6th century."

"KEYALOUGH, a lough in county Roscommon, province of Connaught, Ireland. It is 3 miles N.E. of Boyle and is 4 miles long by 3 broad. The district exhibits much beauty of scenery. The lake is studded with numerous islets, many of which have remains of ancient buildings upon them. The principal of these are Trinity Island, which has remains of an abbey founded in the 7th century and rebuilt in the 13th and 15th centuries, during which period the annals of Lough Key were written. Inchmacnerin Cell and MacDermot's Castle are also attractive objects."

"NORTH and SOUTH BALLINTOBER BARONY, two of the nine baronies or subdivisions of the county of Roscommon, in the province of Connaught, Ireland. North Ballintober lies on the eastern side of the county, and is bounded on the N., E., and S. by the river Shannon, which separates it from the counties of Leitrim and Longford, and on the W. by the barony of Roscommon. It contains the parishes of Kilmore and Termonbarry, with parts of those of Kilglaas and Roosky. South Ballintober extends across the central part of the county, bordering on Lough Rea in the east, and is intersected by the barony of Ballymoe. It contains the towns of Roscommon and Lanesborough, the parishes of Kilgefin, Kilteevan, and Roscommon, with portions of Cloontuskert and Kilbride. These baronies extend over an area of above 84,000 acres.
