The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Kilmacowen contained the following places:

"KILMACOWEN, a parish in the barony of Upper Carbury, county Sligo, province of Connaught, Ireland, 2 miles S.W. of Sligo, its post town. The parish is 3 miles long by 21 broad. The surface lies along part of the shore of Ballysadere harbour, and consists of good land. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Elphin, value with St. John's, Sligo, £705, in the patronage of Trinity College, Dublin. Divine service is held in a private house. There is a day school. Clover Hill and Seafield are the principal residences. Near the old church of St. Diermit are some Druidical remains.
