The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Tawnagh contained the following places:

"TAWNAGH, a parish in the barony of Tirerill, county Sligo, province of Connaught, Ireland, 6 miles S.S.E. of Collooney. Riverstown is its post town. The soil is generally good, except a large quantity of bog. The river Arrow, which flows from Lough Arrow, in the neighbourhood, traces part of its boundary. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Elphin, value with another, £60, in the patronage of the bishop. The church has long been in ruins. There are the ruins of Baby Castle. A fair is held on 17th March.
