CARDIGANSHIRE PLACE NAMES

Hide

This is a place name listing constructed from  (i) the Cardiganshire places  and organisations named in A Topographical Dictionary of Wales (Lewis 1833); (ii) the Cardiganshire nonconformist chapels and their locations named in The Parish Churches and Nonconformist Chapels of Wales, Vol 1 (Rawlins, 1987); (iii) the conventional and obsolete  parish names as given in Cofresti Plwyf Cymru: Parish Registers of Wales (Williams and Watts-Williams, 1986); (iv) sundry other sources.
The names of rivers and streams are not included.
Entries are linked to the parish  page in which they are referred to, which doesn't necessarily mean the named place is always geographically in that parish.

For each entry  a link is provided to the page in GENUKI where more information is to be found about the Cardiganshire town or parish in which the place or organization is situated. (Note: this page will not necessarily contain information about the place or organization itself.)

Separate index entries are often provided for each variant spelling of a name, together with an indication of the type of place or organization (chapel, church, farm, mine, parish, town, etc.) as indicated or implied by Lewis, Rawlins or Williams and Watts-Williams. (Where this cannot be determined the type is simply given as "place" or left blank.)
