Church History

  • Zoar Independent Chapel was built in 1828 (source: Coflein).
  • The church closed in 1965, and the congregation moved the nearby Maesyrhaf Church in January 1966.  The former church building is now used for commercial purposes and is now known as the Zoar Ark Agricultural and Gardening Centre (Source: GENUKI contributor (July 2016)).
  •
  • The chapel did have a rear Graveyard which came into use when the Church Foundation Stone was laid on December 25th 1828.The funeral of a lady member of the Church took place during that day. There was also a smaller area at the front of the building for 6/7 graves 2 of which were former Ministers & their families. No records exist for others buried apart from these 2 families..
Soar was closed on the 31st December 1965 & the building was sold in 1972 as a Warehouse & later the Headstones were removed & a Gardening Centre built over the remains. The Graveyard was officially closed in 1892 along with nearby Maesyrhaf Church Graveyard.
