Jerusalem, Trawsfynydd

(Vol 1, p 438)

"Mae y capel hwn yn mhlwyf Trawsfynydd, ar ochr y ffordd sydd arwain o'r Llan i Ddolgellau. Byddid yn arfer pregethu ar nos Sabbothau yn y Tyddynmawr, er's amryw o flynyddau, ac yr oedd ychydig o aelodau Penystryd yn byw yn y gymydogaeth hon.

Yn y flwyddyn 1826, cafwyd prydles am 40 mlynedd, gan Syr W. Williams Wynne, ar ran o dir y Tyddynmawr, i adeiladu y capel a elwir Jerusalem, am yr ardreth o bum' swllt y flwyddyn. Yr ymddiriedolwyr ydoedd Meistri Edward Davies, Trawsfynydd ; Cadwaladr Jones, Dolgellau; Hugh Lloyd Towyn; a Thomas Davies, Dolgellau. Daeth y brydles gyntaf i fyny yn yflwyddyn 1866, ac adnewyddwyd y weithred gan Syr W. W. Wynne presenol, am 40 mlynedd ychwaneg. Gweithiodd un gwr lawer arno nes ei orphen heb geisio dim gan neb am ei lafur. Teithiodd lawer i gasglu at dalu am dano, a thalwyd pob dimai a gasglwyd ato yn mhob man, heb gadw dim at na thraul na thrafferth. Rhoddodd un teulu yn y gymydogaeth 12p. yn arian tuag at dalu am y capel, ac ni bu arnynt ddim heisiau hyd yma. Mae y lle yma wedi bod o'r dechreuad mewn cysylltiad gweinidogaethol a Penystryd, a than ofal yr un gweinidogion, ac y mae yn awr yn amddifad o fugail.

Ni chodwyd yma ond un pregethwr, sef Griffith Price, Corsygarnedd, yr hwn sydd yn bregethwr cymeradwy Llanfachreth."

Translation by Eleri Rowlands (Feb 2008)

"This chapel is in the parish of Trawsfynydd, at the side if the road that leads from Llan to Dolgellau. They used to hold preaching services in Tyddynmawr on Sunday nights, for a number of years. The few members of Penystryd lived in this locality.

In the year 1826, they had a lease for 40 years, from Syr W. Williams Wynne, on part of the Tyddynmawr land, to build a chapel called Jerusalem, for rates of 5 shillings a year. Mr Edward Davies, Trawsfynydd; Mr Cadwaladr Jones, Dolgellau; Mr Hugh Lloyd, Towyn; and Mr Thomas Davies, Dolgellau were the trustees. The first lease came up in the year 1866, and the documents were renewed by the present Sir W. W. Wynne, for another 40 years. One man worked hard on it until it was finished without asking anyone for payment for his labour. He travelled a lot to collect money to pay for it and every last halfpenny that was collected everywhere was paid without keeping any for his trouble. One family in the locality gave £12 towards paying for the chapel, and until now they have not felt its need. From the beginning this place has been connected by its ministers with Penystryd, and under the care of the same ministers, but is now without a shepherd.

One preacher only was raised here. He was Griffith Price, Corsygarnedd, who is the current preacher of Llanfachreth."
