WEST & HUTCHINSON 's, Market Place; damages over £3000. 9th; Wm. HENRY KAY, plumbers apprentice, fell from a ladder in Waterworks Street, and was killed. 10th; WILLIAM ELLENBOROUGH, eleven years old, was drowned in the Trent, at Gainsborough, whilst bathing. 11th; SARAH JANE ROE, wife of a gasfitter, at Beverley, died from the effects of taking sugar of lead. 13th; Incendiary fire at Mr JOHNSON's farm, Riplingham. - Termination of the strike of EARLE's joiners. - The United South of England Eleven played a match at cricket against 22 of Hornsea. 15th; WILLIAM HENRY ASHTON, a little boy, fell into the Humber Dock basin, and died shortly after being got out of the water. 16th; A young man, named PALMER, recently of Hull, drowned himself in a drain at Boston. 18th; Colonel PEASE was presented with his portrait, and Mrs PEASE with a diamond pendant. - RICHARD HARRISON, retired farmer died very suddenly after bathing in the sea at Scarboro'. - Sudden death of Mr KELSEY, station master at Hornsea. 19th; Stack fire on the premises of Mr J H PEART, Malton; considerable damage done. - ALVINIA CHAPMAN, wife of a fireman, found drowned in the dock at Grimsby. 20th; Trial trip of the North German Lloyds' steamer Hohenstaufen. 21st; Destructive fire on the premises of Mr JACOB COHEN, Waterhouse Lane. - The roof of a locomotive engine shed at Dairycoates fell in; no person injured. - Mr ROWNTREE, Pocklington, died from burns accidentally received on the previous Saturday. 22nd; Mr J L JACOBS, solicitor, Hull, was thrown from his horse at Springhead, and considerably injured. 24th; Fatal accident at Goole regatta, Mr THOS. CASS being drowned. 26th; Fire at Mr WHITE's flour mill, Dansom Lane; estimated damage £2500 27th; BETSY PARKER, dressmaker, Cleethorpes, found guilty of concealment of birth; six months imprisonment. - Inquest at Hull, on T E BLANCHARD, a youth who was found drowned in the Humber. 29th; Flower show at Hornsea and Agricultural Show at Bridlington. 31st; Driffield Agricultural Show. - WILLIAM LAKING, club steward, committed suicide at a lodging house in Station Terrace. - A shocking boiler explosion occurred at Messrs. JAMESON's mill in Canning Street. Mr R W JAMESON and a fireman named HENRY HEWSON were killed. AUGUST 2nd; A woman named ELIZA LEPPINGTON, found drowned at Hilderthorpe, near Bridlington. 3rd; Inspection of Hull Rifle Volunteers. - Marriage of Mr TATTON SYKES. 4th; At York assizes several local cases were tried. - MARY JANE NORRIS for concealment of birth at Patrington, six weeks. For attempted rape at Beverley two militiamen werre each sentenced to 15 years penal servitude, and for arson at Malton Wm. HARRISON was sentenced to 5 years penal servitude. 5th; Beverley Flower Show. - Funeral of Mr R W JAMESON. 6th; Flower Show at Howden. - The All England Eleven visited Grimsby. - Success of Hull Artillery Volunteers at Shoeburyness; they won Sir RICHARD WALLACE's ptize. 7th; RICHARD JACKSON, labourer, Saltshouse Lane, being of unsound mind, committed suicide by haniing himself. 9th; THOMAS STOCKDALE, cowkeeper, Driffield, chocked by a piece of meat lodging in his windpipe. 11th; Grand gala and flower show at Malton. - PETRUS REYKERA, belonging to a Dutch warship, drowned in the Humber. 12th; Mr SAMUEL CLOUGH broke a blood vessel and died suddenly in Park Street. - Hessle Flower Show. - Amicable arrangemant of the strike of Hull Engineers, which had lasted for three months. 13th; Hull Keel Regatta-and on the following day.-THOMAS STEVENS, aged sixteen, accidentally killedat the Frodingham Ironworks. - Explosion of gas at Mr HARLAND's, Chariot Street. 14th; A labourer named NORTHEND died at the Infirmary of compound fracture of the leg caused by falling from a hayrick on the Anlaby Road. - ADA FOWLER, Church Street, Drypool, died from hydrophobia. 15th; Fire at Mr JOHN HUTTON's paint works, Northwalls. - ALFRED VERITY, a boy, found drowned in the Driffield canal. 18th; JOHN O'BRIEN, a little boy, died at Infirmnary. He had had his knee crushed whilst swinging behind a rully. 19th; Scarboro' Agricultural Show. 20th; Pocklington gala and flower show. 21st; Wm PAYNE, in custody on a charge of felony, escaped from Hull Police Court. - Fire in the stackyard belonging to Mr WATERHOUSE, Goole; damage £90. 22nd; Annual inspection of the Hull Artillery Volunteers. 23rd; Destruction of Mr ?LIDGETS(mark on the film,not sure this is correct) extensive stables in Cleethorpes Road, Grimsby, by fire. - The Angelo, WILSON liner, completed her first voyage. 26th; Cottingham Flower Show. - THOMAS MULLINS and EDWARD BARON fined £100 each for unlawfully unshipping tobacco at Hull. - A daring gase of office breaking occurred at Mr BATES, No 1, Billingsgate. 27th; Hull Annual Licensing Meeting. 29th; Collision in the Humber between the steamers Emily and Londos, of Goole. The Emily sank on Whitton Sand. - An old gentleman named ANDERSON was knocked down and killed by a passing train at Malton. 31st; Two inquests were held on seamen found drowned in the Humber.
