- Hapsford was a township in Thornton ancient parish, Eddisbury hundred (SJ 4774), which became a civil parish in 1866.
- The population was 78 in 1801, 102 in 1851, 86 in 1901, 132 in 1951, and 129 in 2001.
- In 2015 the civil parish was abolished and incorporated into Dunham on the Hill & Hapsford and Manley.
