- Hockenhull was a township in Tarvin ancient parish, Eddisbury hundred (SJ 4865), which became a civil parish in 1866.
- The population was 41 in 1801, 22 in 1851, 20 in 1901, 20 in 1951, and 19 in 2001.
- The civil parish was abolished in 2015 and incorporated into Tarvin.
