It was founded in 1893.

St. Mark's Road, Hough Green.

Church History

Built in 1893 as a replacement church for Lache cum Saltney: Holy Epiphany, serving parts of the townships Marlston cum Lache (Cheshire) and Hawarden (Flintshire). Includes the chapel of Saltney Ferry: St. Matthew.

The district was affected by the following boundary changes:

  • 1904 April 22 — enlarged when the following area was transferred from the Flintshire parish of Hawarden (Diocese of St. Asaph): "All that portion of the parish of Hawarden in the said county of Flint and in the diocese of Saint Asaph which is bounded upon part of the south-west by the parish of Dodleston partly in the said county of Chester, and partly in the said county of Flint and wholly in the said diocese of Chester, upon the south-east by the said, new parish of .Lache-cnm-Saltney, and upon the remaining sides, that is to say, upon the north-east, upon the north-west and upon the remaining part of the south-west; by an imaginary line commencing at a point, in the middle of the River Dee, upon the boundary which divides the said new parish of Lache-cum-Saltney from the said parish of Hawarden, and extending thence first westward and then northwestward along the middle of the River Dee for a distance of fifty-three chains or thereabouts to the Higher Ferry, across the said river, and extending thence south-westward to and along the path or track leading from the said Ferry to the road running past Cop Farm and Manor Hall Farm towards Hawarden for a distance of five chains or thereabouts to the junction of such path or track with the said road leading towards Hawarden, and extending thence north-westward along the middle of such road for a distance of six chains or thereabouts to a point opposite to the fence which divides the close numbered 493 upon the tithe apportionment map of the parish of Hawarden and also upon the map or plan annexed to this scheme or representation from the close numbered 492 upon the said maps, and extending thence first south-westward then north-westward then again south-westward and then south-eastward to and along the fences which divide the closes numbered 493, 506, 529, 530 and 581 upon the said maps from the closes numbered 492, 507, 527, 528, 526 and 525 upon the said maps and crossing the Chester and Holyhead Line of the London and North Western Railway for a distance of sixty-six chains or thereabouts to a point on the fence forming the northwestern boundary of the Mold Branch Line of the London and North Western Railway, and extending thence south-eastward to and then north-eastward along the middle of the said line of railway for a distances of five chains or thereabouts to the level crossing where such line of railway is intersected by the middle of the roadway leading to Wellhouse Farm and extending thence south-eastward along the middle of such roadway for a distance of fifteen chains and a half or thereabouts to a point opposite to the wall or fence forming the north-western boundary of the existing close in which the house called Wellhouse Farm now stands and extending thence north-eastward to and first north-eastward then south-eastward along the wall or fence forming the north-western and the north-eastern boundaries of the said existing close; for a distance of seventeen chains or thereabouts to the point where such boundary wall or fence meets the north-western side of the road leading from Chester to Mold and extending thence first southeastward to and then south-westward along the middle of the last-mentioned road for a distance of two chains and a half or thereabouts to its junction with the road leading to the house called Hope's-place, and extending thence southeastward along the middle of the last-mentioned road for a distance of seven chains and a half or thereabouts to the centre of the bridge or culvert which carries such road across the watercourse which runs between the closes numbered 893, 892, 888, 874, and 875 upon the said maps and the closes numbered 861, 868, 870, 872, 873, and 443 upon the said maps and extending thence south-eastward along the middle of the said watercourse for a distance of forty chains or thereabouts to the boundary which divides the said parish of Hawarden from the said parish of Dodleston."
  • 1923 October 12 — enlarged when the following area was transfererd from Chester: St. Mary without the Walls: "All that portion of the Parish of Saint Mary on the Hill, Chester, in the said County of Chester and in the said Diocese of Chester, which is bounded upon the west and upon the south west by the said New Parish of Lache cum Saltney, and upon the remaining sides, that is to say, upon the south east, upon the east and upon the north west, by an imaginary line commencing at the point where the boundary which divides the said New Parish of Lache cum Saltney from the said Parish of Saint Mary on the Hill, Chester, crosses the fence which forms the south eastern boundary of the close numbered 80d upon the Ordnance Survey Map of the Civil Parish of Chester published in the year 1911 on the scale of 25 inches to a mile and also upon the map or plan annexed to this Scheme or Representation, and extending thence north eastward along the said fence and along the fence forming the south eastern boundary of the close numbered 80 upon the said maps for a distance in all of 8½ chains or thereabouts to the point where the last mentioned fence meets the fence forming the north eastern boundary of the said close numbered 80, and extending thence north westward along the last mentioned fence and along the fence forming the north eastern boundary of the close numbered 100 upon the said map for a distance in all of 22½ chains or thereabouts to the point where the last mentioned fence meets the fence at the eastern end of the roadway which runs along the backs of the houses and premises situate on the southern side of the road called Hough Green, and extending thence northward along the last mentioned fence and along the fence forming the eastern boundary of the house and premises known as Heath-field, Number 23, Hough Green, for a distance in all of 5¼ chains or thereabouts to the point where the last mentioned fence meets the southern side of Hough Green, and extending thence first northward to and then eastward along the middle of Hough Green for a distance in all of 12 chains or thereabouts to its junction with Selkirk Road, and extending thence northward along the middle of Selkirk Road for a distance of 4 chains or thereabouts to its present northern end, and continuing thence northward in precisely the same direction and in a straight line for a distance of 26 chains or thereabouts to a point in the middle of the Chester and Holyhead Line of the London, Midland and Scottish Railway, and extending thence south westward along the middle of the said line of railway for a distance of 20½ chains or thereabouts to the boundary which divides the said Parish of Saint Mary on the Hill, Chester, from the said New Parish of Lache cum Saltney."
