"THRELKELD, a chapelry in the parish of Greystoke, Leath ward, county Cumberland, 4½ miles N.E. of Keswick, its post town. It is a station on the Cockermouth and Penrith railway. The village is situated under Blencathra, with a prospect over St. John's Valley. About a third of the parish is in poor pasture and woodland. The living is a perpetual curacy* in the diocese of Carlisle, value £60. The church, dedicated to St. Mary, was rebuilt in 1776, at a cost of £270."
