TANSLEY, Derbyshire - Extract from National Gazetteer, 1868

"TANSLEY, a hamlet in the parish of Crich, hundred of Wirksworth, county Derby, 5 miles N.E. of Crich, and 1½ mile E. of Matlock, its railway station and post town. The village contains a candlewick and small-ware manufactory.

The living is a perpetual curacy in the diocese of Lichfield, value £100, in the patronage of the Vicar of Crich. The church, dedicated to the Holy Trinity, is a stone edifice with a tower, and was built in 1840. There is a National school for both sexes, including infants. The Wesleyans have a chapel."
