“WARDLOW, a township in the parishes of Bakewell and Hope, hundred of High Peake, county Derby, 4 miles N.W. of Bakewell, and 2 S.E. of Tideswell. A cairn with stone coffins was opened here in 1755."

- Wardlow was originally a Chapel of Ease for several local parishes.
- In the early 1800s Sunday services were held in a schoolroom.
- The Anglican parish chapel is dedicated to the Good Shepherd.
- The chapel was built in 1873.

- A turnpike road was built through the village in 1759. It uncovered a circular heap of stones within which 17 bodies were entombed in stone coffins.

The 1831 Overseers Accounts for Tideswell mention: Josh BAMFORD Wardlow receiving a Militia Bounty for signing-up.
The War Memorial is located inside the Church of the Good Shepherd, Castlegate Lane. It is a white marble slab with black or dark grey inscription.
The War Memorial reads:

- This place was an ancient Township in Bakewell parish in Derby county and it was incorporated as a separate, modern Civil Parish in December, 1866.
- This parish was in the ancient High Peak Hundred (or Wapentake).
- This citizens of this parish have elected to forgo a formal Parish Council. Instead, they hold periodic Parish Meetings of all the citizens to discuss civic and political issues.
- District governance is provided by the Derbyshire Dales District Council.
- Bastardy cases would be heard in the Bakewell petty session hearings each Friday.
- As a result of the 1834 Poorlaw Amendment Act reforms, this parish became a member of the Bakewell Poorlaw Union.
