The Paper was presented at the Association’s July 1893 Torquay meeting. It is for the genealogist, a treasury of names associated with the earliest research into our county’s unique Prehistory. The Paper followed the foundation paper presented in 1892 at the Association’s Plymouth gathering. At that meeting Mr Worth remarked that while some of the rows that formerly existed had disappeared, it was unlikely that those still extant were recorded. His assertion was verified while the paper was in press by the discovery of an undescribed row at Assycombe, with another at Merivale, and remains of others on Cocks Tor. The author, Richard Nicholls Worth (19 July 1837− 3 July 1896) was a celebrated Plymouth archaeologist and historian. He was twice president of the Plymouth Association, and in 1891 of the Devonshire Association. Altogether Mr. Worth published approximately140 papers between 1869 and his death. They were mostly historical, and submissions to the proceedings of local societies. Some of his scientific papers appeared in the Quarterly Journal of the Geological Society of London, of which he became a fellow in 1875.
