The Paper was presented at the Association’s July 1895 Okehampton meeting. For the genealogist, it provides a treasury of names associated with the earliest research into our county’s unique prehistory. The Paper is fourth in a series originating with a foundation paper presented in 1892 at the Association’s Plymouth gathering. Mr. Worth reported that since last year’s (1894) meeting at South Molton, seven more stone rows had been discovered and explored. One at Sherrell Down; others at Merrivale, Lake Head Hill; Ringmoor and Yartor. The author, Richard Nicholls Worth (19 July 1837− 3 July 1896) was a celebrated Plymouth archaeologist and historian. He was twice president of the Plymouth Association, and in 1891 of the Devonshire Association. Altogether Mr. Worth published approximately 140 papers between 1869 and his death. They were mostly historical, and submissions to the proceedings of local societies. Some of his scientific papers appeared in the Quarterly Journal of the Geological Society of London, of which he became a fellow in 1875.
