GITTISHAM, a parish in the eastern division of hundred of Budleigh, county of DEVON, 2¾ miles (S. W. by W.) from Honiton, containing 351 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Exeter, rated in the king's books at £21. 8. 11½., and in the patronage of the Rev. T. Putt. Sir Thomas Putt, in 1686, founded a charity school, and endowed it with a rentcharge of £10 for teaching twenty children.
