Ellis Veryard (1657-1714) was a physician who lived in Plymtree having studied medicine in Leyden and Utrecht. After his travels between 1682 and 1695 he returned to Plymtree, moving later to Cullompton, where he died. He was buried in Plymtree Church. The author describes Veryard as "a Devon Worthy". He published an account of his travels in 1701. The Appendix provides an extensive pedigree of the Veryard family.
