This Paper was presented at the Association’s August 1885, Seaton meeting. Honeyditches is an archaeological site situated near the church and Seaton Fire Station. Excavation at Honeyditches has revealed first century A.D. occupation in the Iron Age tradition, followed by Roman buildings. The Seaton Museum website provides a great deal of information about this important archaeological site. The Paper’s author, Peter Orlando Hutchinson was a polymath with wide interests, who produced a series of diaries and sketchbooks containing observations on the geology, archaeology, botany and other items of interest relating to East Devon. He was also great-grandson of Massachusetts governor Thomas Hutchinson of Boston Tea Party fame.
