The obituary was read at the Association’s July 1907 Axminster meeting. John James Edgcombe Venning was born in St Catherine Hill, Norwich, Norfolk on 5 Dec 1833 to James Meybohm Venning and Patience Maria Parson.  His first wife was Loveday Marshall Grylls. He was one of five children. As well as John James, there were: Alfred John Meybohm Venning, Charles Edgcombe Venning, James Arthur Venning, and Loveday Margaret Venning. John James Edgcombe Venning. Mr. Venning was born at Norwich in 1833. He was educated at Rugby, admitted a solicitor in 1858, and in 1862 he became a member of the firm of Messrs. Little and Woollcombe, solicitors, Devonport. He joined the Association in 1887, occasionally attending the meetings, and always taking a warm interest in its welfare and progress. He died after a long illness 19 August, 1906
