“ALPHAMSTONE, a parish in the hundred of HINCKFORD, county of ESSEX, 6 miles (N. E. by E.) from Halstead, containing 244 inhabitants. "ALPHAMSTONE, a parish in the hundred of Hinckford, in the county of Essex, 4 miles to the S. of Sudbury. The river Stour runs near it. The living is a rectory* in the diocese of Rochester, value £257, in the gift of the lord chancellor. The parochial charities amount to £13 a year."
