"MAISEMORE is a township, village, and parish, distant 2 miles north-west from the Gloucester railway station, 3 miles south-east from Hartpury, bounded on the east by the navigable river Severn, and on the west by the Hereford and Gloucester canal, in the Dudstone and King's Barton hundred, Gloucester union, county court district, archdeaconry and deanery, and diocese of Gloucester and Bristol, East Gloucestershire.

A branch of the river Severn is here crossed by a bridge, which was rebuilt on the restoration of peace after the siege of Gloucester. The church of St. Giles is a stone building, and consists of a nave and chancel, with a handsome embattled tower at the west end containing 6 bells; the chancel was restored in 1844 by the then Bisop of Gloucester. The living is a perpetual curacy, valued at 89 Pounds, with the residence and 3 acres of glebe land, in the patronage of the Bishop of Gloucester, and held by the Rev. George Harmer, M.A.. Maisemore lodge, the seat of J, Ford Sevier, Esq., stands on an elevation, commanding a fine prospect over the Severn.

The population in 1861 was 516. The parish contains 1,758 acres of rich meadow pasture, and arable land; rateable value 3,600 Pounds. The soil varies with the situation; on the banks of the Severn it is a red loamy clay, but on the higher parts, gravel."

"SPRING HILL, Persh, Saltbox, Court Farm, Watersend, Bridgend, and Northend are places here. Overton was a Roman settlement."
