The tithes were commuted for land and a money payment under an Enclosure Act in 1777.The living is a vicarage* with that of Windrush united, in the diocese of Gloucester and Bristol, value £194. The church, dedicated to St. Mary Magdalene, has a tower, containing a clock and six bells. The church was rebuilt at the expense of Lord Sherborne, of whose family it contains monuments. There are two schools for both sexes, supported by Lord Sherborne, who is lord of the manor and principal landowner."
