- "WHITTINGTON, a parish in the hundred of Bradley, county Gloucester, 4 miles S.E. of Cheltenham. The village is situated under the Cotswold hills. The surface is undulating, and the lower grounds are watered by the Colne brook. There are quarries of stone. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Gloucester and Bristol, value £300. There is a school with a small endowment."
