"YAVERLAND, a parish in the liberty of East Medina, Isle of Wight, county Hants, 8 miles S.E. of Newport, 5 S. of Ryde, and 1 mile from Brading. The village is situated on Sandown Bay, near Brading Harbour. The ancient manor-house, formerly the seat of the Russell, Hatfield, and Richards families, is now a farmhouse. Fossils have been found in the cliffs. The living is a rectory* in the diocese of Winchester, value £230. Sir G. E. Hammond is lord of the manor and sole landowner. "
