"HAMPTON (BISHOPS), a parish in the hundred of GRIMSWORTH, county of HEREFORD, 4 miles (S. E. by E.) from Hereford, containing, with the township of Tupsley, 544 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the peculiar jurisdiction of the Dean of Hereford, rated inthe king's books at £ 13.13. 9., and in the patronage of the Bishop of Hereford. The church is dedicated to St. Andrew. The parish is bounded on the south by the river Wye, on the north by the Lug, both navigable for vessels of thirty tons burden, and on the east by the river Froomy."
