A Roman Catholic school and chapel opened in 1885 to replace temporary buildings of 1877, erected amongst the Barrow Island huts. The modern church opened in 1933.
St. Patrick's School, on Old Barrow Island, is a temporary wooden structure with an average attendance of nearly 200. It is a mixed school, and is under the care of Miss McGrath.from Mannex's directory of Furness and Cartmel, 1882.
The church closed on Sunday 24 Nov 2009. The parish merged with St Columba's on Walney and is now known as St Columba's and St Patrick's.
Records still remain at the church.
