The foundation stones (four of them) were laid in April 1893.The Church was opened in May 1895. It was built on the site where Blackburn Rovers played their home matches from 1881 until they moved to Ewood ten years later. The Church celebrated its Centenary the day the Rovers were the League Champions in 1995.
