This parish and the two villages of St. Anne and St. Michael are in southwest Nottinghamshire and lie about 120 miles north of London, 6 miles north of Loughborough (in Leicestershire) and 10 miles due south of Nottingham city. The River Soar passes through the parish.
The village sits along a small brook that flows into the River Soar at Kingston. If you are planning a visit:
- By automobile, take the A60 arterial road north out of Loughborough toward Nottingham. At Costock, turn left (west) for East Leake and continue on to West Leake.
- Ask for a calculation of the distance from Sutton Bonington St. Anne to another place.
- The parish has a long history of ringing the church bell for curfew in the winter months.
- The village feast was held on the first Sunday after St. Michael's Day (September 29) or on that day if it fell on a Sunday or Monday.

In 1904, Lt.-Col. Sir George Ernest PAGET resided in Sutton-Hall. Saint Anne's Hall was the residence of Major Charles Richard TENNANT.
In 1915, the Midland Agricultural and Dairy College had a "main building" erected. However on completion the government requisitioned it to be an officer prisoner of war site for German Officers for the duration of the first world war.

In the church there is a memorial to Admiral Sir William KING-HALL, K.C.B., who died in July, 1886, at age 70.
